Internet and multimedia demography: what's new?

Three main directions of further development of demography based on the modern computer technologies are the topics of presentation. 1. Demographic databases on the Net. Advantages and facilities of special tools of data processing “on the fly” on the server side additional to search and extraction of data are presented. Examples of aggregation, standardization, life table calculation, etc. are given for Kannisto-Thatcher Database on Old Age Mortality. 2. Five year experience of demographic knowledge dissemination on the pages of web demographic newspaper Demoscope Weekly http://demoscope.ru is revised in presentation. It includes: DW goals, history, volume, structure of DW sections, composition of statistical Annex and its tools – databases, HTML and electronic tables, pages for drawing diagrams, pyramids. 3. It is suggested to discuss the new project of Multimedia Demography Guide, its composition and structure, principles of development, its features and advantages.
