In the European Union mortality has been fairly stable since 1980. However there is a considerable disparity between countries and causes of death. The aim of this study is to document the scenario of mortality and health in the European Union after the accession of the ten new Member States. This poster focuses on the mortality and causes of death among persons over 85 in the European Union. We examine differences in life expectancy and mortality levels, based on data from the European shortlist for Causes of Death (ICD-WHO). We also study the evolution of most important causes of death: neoplasms, diseases of the circulatory system and diseases of the respiratory system.
